Melcom International, the European Association of Middle East Librarians, is a non-governmental organization, devoted to promoting co-operation among individuals and institutions in Europe, North America and the Middle East concerned with all aspects of librarianship, book collecting, the book trade and publishing. Besides other activities Melcom International furthers its aims by convening a yearly meeting.

The 25th meeting is organized by the Orient-Institut der Deutschen Morgenländischen Gesellschaft and the Bibliothèque Orientale / Université Saint Joseph. The conference will be held on the premises of both institutions.

The library of the Orient Institut and the Bibliothèque Orientale look back to a long tradition of cooperation dating back to the years before the civil war. It has been revitalized in the 1990s and is part of a treaty of cooperation between the Orient Institut and the Université Saint Joseph. The holdings of both institutions complement each other, a situation, which is further enhanced by select coordination in acquisition policies and book exchange.

The conference is organized by Wolf-Dieter Lemke (head librarian) and Dina Banna (librarian) from the Orient Institut and Mme. May Semaan-Seigneurie, directrice of the BO. There will be a conference fee. The First and Second Circular have been issued by the Melcom secretary. You will find them annexed to this announcement, as well as the programme.
